Detailed comparison: Sony A6500 vs A6300

by | Jan 14, 2017 | Blog, MAARTECH | 0 comments

It’s sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to get hold of a new camera. Although Sony Canada had promised one, B&H photo – thanks to my affiliate relationship – was able to send one up for review.

I want to be as comprehensive as I can and not miss any details, but in the few hours since I posted the video, my viewers have already filled in some issues I didn’t identify. And I noticed that the A6500 can capture a custom white balance in video mode. From my youtube comments, Daniel O noted that the shutter sound is different, and that although I mentioned the menu lockout while the buffer cleared, I didn’t mention that there are other controls, including the Fn menu which are still available.

Before I return the camera, I’m also working on a full review of the A6500 and a video to demonstrate the best video settings.

(I still recommend the A6000 as an excellent value camera)

Behind the Scenes
On camera scenes are recorded with a Fujifilm X-T2 with the XF 16-55 lens, and the VPB-XT2 grip. Closeups of the cameras were recorded with the X-T2 using the XF 60mm macro lens. Menus were recorded using an Atomos Shogun.

On camera audio is recorded using a Rodelink Filmmaker wireless kit, narration recorded using a Rode NT-USB. Manfrotto tripods are used. I edit using Final Cut 10.3.1 on a 5K iMac.

I do read and respond to all comments, which are moderated. If, either here or on youtube, you leave a relevant and civil comment without links (which are filtered by youtube) it will be posted.
