I do my best to provide good quality audio recordings for my videos. Here are some of the ways I do that, demonstrated with some of the products I use.
If you have not tried dual recording, I hope that this video demonstrates how easy it is to do. Although I try to record the audio directly to camera when I can sometimes it’s just not possible, so I frequently record on an external recorder and the synchronize the audio with the video. It’s easier than you think, and provides high quality sound.
In a second video, I made recordings of the microphones used for comparison listening. These mics are appropriate for a variety of situations, so it’s not possible to judge one as better than the other. In a perfect world, I would record all of my audio with the Rode Shotgun – but it’s an exceedingly impractical solution. If I can be wired (or for interviews) I use the Sony ECM-44, and when I need wireless I use the Rode FilmMaker.

This video was recorded at the YouTube Space in Toronto, with the Panasonic EVA1 camera. We also recorded a video demonstrating the configuration we used for the shoot. YouTube provides the Sony wireless mic system. Camera and Lighting by Sonam Tashi.
