Silky waterfalls – how to make water look creamy

by | Jul 2, 2015 | Blog, MAARTECH

There are several photo techniques, but time exposures that let parts of the image blur while others remain sharp are among my favourites. In response to the question “How do you get those silky looking waterfall pictures?”, Paul and I took a trip to Ball’s Falls to demonstrate our techniques.

Paul shot with the Canon 60D, I used the Sony A6000.

The on-camera scenes were recorded on a Sony NEX VG20 with the 18-200. The direct recording of the 60D and A6000 screens was made using an Atomos Ninja Star. On camera, we used the Sennheiser ew-2 wireless system.

As always, if there are any details we’ve overlooked, I welcome (and reply to) your comments and questions. Let me know if there are some specific photo techniques that you’d like to see.
