Sony RX10 III hands on review

by | Sep 16, 2016 | Blog, MAARTECH

When Vélo Québec invited me to Montréal for the Go Vélo Bike Festival, I accepted and then called my contacts to borrow a suitable camera. Sony loaned me the RX10 III, which provided the opportunity both to shoot the ride as well as record some interviews for a video about the festival.

The RX10 III was one of three cameras to make the trip – which made for a busy weekend. Unfortunately the heavy rains on the Sunday prevented me from doing as much shooting with the RX10 III as I’d planned.

Montréal is a wonderful city, with a vibrant cycling culture – the extensive network of cycling lanes, many of which are physically separated from the traffic lanes, were busy with cyclists. The events – the night ride on Friday, the various tours on Sunday were very well attended, as you can see from the photos. And there are also lots of trails to enjoy.

The photos are available on flickr, so you can see the EXIF settings.

Here’s a link to B&H for updated U$ pricing of the RX10 III.

If you’re interested in more photos and video of the event, I’ve produced a video about the weekend, as well as reviews of the Nikon D5500 and the Canon G7X II. My on camera segments for those reivews were recorded using the RX10 III.

Kim joined me for this trip, and helped me shoot the on-camera segments, which we recorded around Montréal’s McGill University downtown campus. They were recorded using the Nikon D5500. Audio recorded using the Rodelink videomaker wireless kit.

Camera beauty shots and closeups recorded with the Sony A6300 with the SEL30M35 macro lens. Screen captures recorded using an Atomos Shogun. Voice over recorded using the Rode NT USB mic. Edited using Final Cut 10.2.3 on a 5K iMac.

I was a guest of Vélo Québec, who provided both travel and accommodation for this trip.
